Chinaman Is Not the Preferred Nomenclature
I say goddamn. Monday is the Devil, and the alarm clock is his evil servant. I did have, however, what can only be described as a pretty damn good weekend, all things considered.
I got together with a few guys who've graduated in the last year or two in Connersville, Indiana. Keeping with the after-death theme of the post thus far, Connersville would be Purgatory for me, Heaven for white-trash. I took a half day on Friday to drive out to Phil's apartment where we dicked around until Farmer, Snyder and Hassler made their appearance sometime that evening. The near-sum of the purpose of the weekend was to see "Talladega Nights" together, but the stooges arrived too late on Friday to catch a showing. It would have been easier if the nearest civilized theater was closer than 30 minutes away.
In lieu of Ferrell on Friday, we did what any respectable group of college buddies would do and went to McDonalds and ogled sixteen year old girls. Hey, we went to Rose. Don't judge, don't judge. The rest of the night consisted of a fifth race (woo-hoo ready-made Bahama-Mama), "Waiting", "Clerks" and Euchre. Oh, and if you've seen "Waiting", you'll understand me, if not, please disregard. The Goat. I can't believe how many homo's we have working here.
Saturday: pizza for lunch, RoHo for dinner. As balanced a diet as anyone can ask for. Warmed up for the main attraction with "V for Vendetta" which was just as good as I remembered. Afterwards, we went to the show. "Talladega Goddamn Nights". The sensible part of me told myself there was no way I could like a movie that revolved at all around NASCAR, and I should have goddamn listened. People, if you've seen the previews, you've seen the movie. Parts of the movie made me down right uncomfortable because I didn't feel white-trash enough to laugh at the jokes. After "Talladega Dumbshit Redneck Nights", we went back to Phil's and watched "The Big Lebowski" for the 30th time. I was more entertained by the Dude than "Talladega Fucking BBQ Stained Wife Beater Nights". If you loved Anchorman, I'll understand if you still want to see this movie, but please god, don't spend admission to do so. I know it's doing great at the box-office, but hype as a way of making people piss money away. Theater-hop, download or steal the movie from Blockbuster in four months. Will Ferrell, please go back to SNL. We need you. If you want to piss yourself from laughing, go see Clerks II.
It occurs to me now that I need to get in touch with the hiring folks over at Lutron and make some sort of visitation arrangements. It'd be great to actually have a place to live before I went out there to work. It would make things... convenient.
Tuesday night? 311, round six. I'm afraid the opening act (Bob Marley's old band) won't impress me, but it'll be nice see the Omaha boys again.
That's all for this round. Adieu.
Trust your instinct like trust what's in the mirror
"but hype as a way of making people piss money away" -> i hope to god you are thinking of Pirates of the Unfinished Sequels, because Talladega Nights let's you know what you are in for before you walk into it. That shit-bomb of a movie about Captain Jack and his ball-busting crew did not tell me anything about it being a 2 part movie - not another full installment of the series. yet it managed to do well enough to place it in the record books - and it sucked.
and yes. mondays suck. a lot.
I concur on the Talladega Nights...and mondays
Anchorman was a delightful surprise. TN was shit.
And I feel I must defend Pirates 2. Everyone knew there was going to be a 3 in the same way we all knew the Matrix was going to be a 3-banger. The cliff-hanger ending should have come as no surprise. Besides, it was at leaset a decent movie-going experience all by its onesie. Johnny Depp? Absolutely.
it's the bat-wing, bitch!
Sigh...It will be the first 311 concert in Columbus I will have missed in quite some time. Hope you got a contact buzz for both of us Dan.
Holy shit, dude. It was the most herb-a-licious 311 concert ever. Promo had Event Staff guys in plain clothes going through the lawn looking for tokers. Didn't catch the hippies behind us though. Nooch.
You got a copy of Clerks II yet? I keep reading about its hilarity but haven't ventured to view.
Saw it in theaters. Copies online are probably all gay telesyncs.
