I See Sam's Town

The verdict is in on the new Killer's album. I've had 5 days to thoroughly review it and I've come to this conclusion: on a scale of one to awesome, it's the shit. Never mind thing you might have heard, when taken out of the media spotlight and looked at in the singular, it stands by itself. I think my opinion of new albums in general has been someone on the outs compared to most casual reviewers because (mainly) of our radio listening habits. I hate to think that I'm going to hate an album when it comes out because of the single. There are in fact more tracks on it that could influence your opinion of something on the whole. Thus, the argument that you hate any album because the single is overplayed it debunked. "Sam's Town", is a great disc. It has an "Enterlude" and an "Exitlude". There's little else I can say. While I hate music videos, I've heard that Tim Burton directed the video for the second single ("Bones") to be released later. Go, listen. Hell, even pay for it.

Homecoming: 2006. Not as destructive as some homecomings of the past, but not without its charm. There's nothing I can put in words that will do you as good as pictures, so without adieu:

The First Day of Homecoming

You'll need some time to digest that, for sure. Attention readers from K-AREN, the lipstick-tit picture is in there somewhere. It will pop right out at you. I swear.

This, is a two-day week. Suicide break (Fall Break, to some) starts Wednesday night, or Tuesday night for guys like me who have no Wednesday classes. I'll be back in G-Biddy until sometime Sunday. Drop me a line.

While I'm thinking of it, I want to quasi-officially organize some bar-like festivities for this coming Friday. That is, I want to do no more organizing than say "We're going out, and I'm not driving" and then let someone more local take care of the rest. Location? Time? If you're 21+, leave a note so we can put you on the mailing list. Brothers, anyone? OSU-kids, organize this.

That might be all the news fit to print. As you were.

I say Brother's, Friday night. We can meet at my place. I prefer not to drive, but I can if necessary.

Hey! I was just worried... I haven't had enough time to listen through it more than once or twice yet to render an actual thought.

Plus, I had more arguments than just the single. I was basing it off the typical movie-marketing strategy when big movies that have no substance are released (snakes on a plane, for example). they generate huge media buzz with various unorthodox methods and singling out the few good moments in order to get a large return on the opening weekend before word of mouth crushes the media buzz.

Yes, the single isn't always a good indicator of the rest of the album, but a lot of times it is the only good track on the album, and used to sell the rest of the album. I think that When you were young is a different sound than the rest of the tracks on the album, which makes it kind of a false indicator of the rest of the album. But as far as I've heard, I'm not opposed to the album, but I'm not sure if its "Hot Fuss" level.

Oh it will take time to discern if it is of Hot Fuss level. No doubt. And I hope that in my ramblings you didn't think I was calling you an idiot. I would be a lot more blunt if such were the case. I just can't stand the nay-saying! Haha.

If you actually bought the album, and didn't get the bonus track, "Where the White Boys Dance", then you should torrent that shit. It's pretty good too. The title-track, I think, is one of the best on the disc.

Assuming you want an old fart like me around, I may be back in OH-IO for suicide break and more than willing to drink some OSUers under-the-table. That's a big maybe but not as big as what emerges when I 'thread the needle'...giggity.

Happy Homecoming (flex).

I'll drive, if need be..
