Dammit, David Caruso

Woohoo freetime. Maybe a week to myself before I started working was a bit too much. I have a feeling I'm going to have exhausted everything I can do by myself in another couple of days. Today? A&E has had CSI:Miami on for like 8 hours, leading up to some movie (by A&E) starring John Stamos as a gay wedding planner... I'm more than a little sick of the commercials for it.

The Mrs and I drove up here last Monday in the early hours of the morning. My folks showed up just an hour later and we unloaded the truck and started assembling my new territory. It took a couple of days to make the place livable, but Shannon and I did a pretty decent job. Pictures of the finished job she took on Saturday are right here.

I start work on Monday the 18th over at Lutron. I'm going to practice driving over there at 7am tomorrow just to see what it's like in traffic. I spent part of my evening teaching myself to tie a necktie. I wish I were kidding. I practiced during a couple episodes of Seinfeld. It's just one of those things I never picked up. I learned the double tie knot. Tomorrow, maybe I'll learn a few more after I run my errands. It could be fun.

This is an open invitation to anyone that happens to be in my area at any time to come hang out. I know some people in Pitt and over at Bucknell, ya'll come first. Haha. Anyone else that happens to be here or in Jersey or anything, just drop me a line [dankober at gmail.com]. The only time I'll be out of town in the next 6 months or so is for Christmas, otherwise I will be here.

Music? OK. A few bands just dropped new albums in the last few weeks and I'll just run through them quick-like.

  • Incubus (Light Grenades) - Well, it's a stark improvement over "A Crow Left of the Murder", but it's certainly not as good as any other album they've ever done. I don't think this has a political feel to it at all, unless I'm missing all the lyrics, but I'm not terribly impressed. The song? "Anna Molly".
  • Brand New (The Devil and God are Raging Inside of Me) - Hey there good lookin. What's your name? Oh yeah? You wanna play a little game? It's called: "Who's in my mouth?". This is a terrific disc. After hearing the demo someone tracked down for me a few months ago I must say the album is what I came to expect, though missing some of the A+ tracks from the Demo. Instrumentals aside, every track is totally worth getting wet over. There is no "the song. You will listen to all of them.
  • My Chemical Romance (The Black Parade) - Now why would I save this album for last in a list that includes Brand New? There must be a good reason. It must be, because this album absolutely rocks my shit. It has been called an "experimental" album by some, I think the experiment has worked. Every track can just get all the little hairs on your body to stand on end. "Cancer", "Mama" and "Welcome to the Black Parade". I think this disc has me transfixed because of the huge improvements made since their last one. Don't get me wrong, I like "Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge", but this is such a huge step up. I actually bought this album. That's a sign right there.

TV? Heroes! I'm all caught up on the show now and I must say Tree was right, it's terrific. The whole show is a comic book, they just don't want you to find that out. No new episodes until January though. Tough. Shannon also has me watching Battlestar Galactica which isn't too bad. I'm only two episodes into the first season... of three seasons.

Uh, I think that's it. That's everything I can think of for now. Let's see some chatter people. Let's see some chatter out there.

Pretty swank place. Try not to exert yourself too much getting up so early on a day you don't even have to go to work Maybe they'll see you pass by and invite you in. Or send you more cookies...::jealous::

Very nice! My compliments to your decorator. And don't knock the John Stamos movie. It was truly ridiculous, and yet wonderful--everything a christmastime movie set in August should be.

My lap time? 25 minutes to get to work in the morning. Not bad considering I thought it was going to take closer to 40. Traffic was non-existent. And I did my grocery shopping thank you very much. Though, I bought fucking toaster strudels... without remembering I don't own a damn toaster yet. Hope they don't freeze.

The apartment looks pretty nice.

If you get too bored you can try to see how many times you can JO in one day. I think the current record is held by Patrick Hefernan with ~20. God's speed.

You should get a web cam and set it up in your living room and we'll set one up in the Cottage so we can Power Hour together. DO IT PLEDGE!

Forrest and I have been playing with Kelley's Wii... and I'm not ashamed to say that.

I do have a webcam.
But I've been to do different grocery stores around here and neither of them even have beer. I'm a little worried.

Man, I wish we had a TV like that in the cave, maybe then I could have seen what was going on on the screen.

If you can't find any beer I'm sure we could mail you a case of Busch, and remember, you know you're an alcoholic when you're getting drunk by yourself.

About time you learned to tie a tie. If you care the knot you wore most of freshman and sophomore year was a windsor.

Not everyone can have as good of alcohol sales laws' as Indiana....but you should be able to find "wine & spirits" stores around - beer though, may be harder to find. do a search on the plcb...

Maryland has the same thing with no beer in grocery stores....you just have to find your niche in an alcohol store. I can tell you that schlehr showed me a store where you needed a cart to shop for your alcohol...i think i shed a tear...

Tim - By the by, I'm pretty tempted to get a Wii sometime in Jan/Feb if I get crazy bored. I figure I've only got another 2-3 hours left in FFXII... but I bought NWN2 so that should kill some time.

JJ - Hey, if I want to sit in my living room, drink, read comic books and watch porn with my cat, that's my right.

Ted - Yeah I know it was a windsor. But the closest mirror is in the bathroom and none of those diagrams are any good without one. So I'm taking it step at a time... from the couch.

Wojo - It's whack. And there are no chain grocery stores around here I recognize. "Giant". "Acme". Really? There's a Walmart across the street but it's not a Super Walmart so there's no food. Jank. I've recently become very attached to Hornsby's and Woodchuck. I blame Thiede.

She did make you watch the BSG mini-series first, right? Otherwise a lot of stuff doesn't make sense...

Oh, and hell yes shrine to the confederacy! :)

Woodchuck is like a little bit of heaven. In Alabama, Katie says they call alcohol stores "package shops" and in Canada they're called "party stores" so you may want to check stores with unassuming names.

Yeah we watched the miniseries first. No thanks to you, Rodzik, I am completely caught up in collecting the series.

I put "liquor" into Google Maps and all the results come up "State Liquor Store". But at least there are some around here. I live near "Twin Woods Golf Course" there on the right.

Also, Woodchucks is a little more expensive than Hornsby's for very little difference in taste. When you're given your druthers, always go for the green bottles instead of red. Sour >> Amber, anyday.

So - here is your liquor store: http://www.lcb.state.pa.us/app/Retail/Storelookup.asp?city=Hatfield
Address: 1547 Bethlehem Pke

You can thank me later. Preferably on a drunk dial. Or better yet - in person sometime.

Haha. I know I found it after I talked to my buddy Kara in Pittsburgh. There are a bunch around here. And Bethlehem Pike is the equivalent of saying Wabash in the Haute.

Barrel Fever was my least favorite of his books. Me Talk Pretty One Day is hilarious and Naked ain't bad either.

Any idea yet when and how long you'll be home? We have an X-Mas party to schedule...

Yea, PA is weird. You cant buy beer anywhere....but when you go to a distributor to buy it, you have to get the case. So they manage to encourage drinking through all their silly laws. meh. See you Friday Dank :)

So are they going to even have my Woodchuck? I wasn't aware you could get it in a case. Kara, you'll have to take me to this gestapo-run beer emporium. Break my cherry.

Tree - I'll be in SUPER late on the 22nd, so call it the 23rd, and probably leaving the evening of the 25th. 26th at the latest. Won't know until I start work on Monday.

dude, i think they had everything in a case. If not, I know where we can find some woodchuck :)

You, sir, have great taste in TV. I have been following Heroes (great blog by a producer/director). I heart that show. I've also recently picked up battlestar in all the spare time I have from being on break (and having DVR at home, woohoo!). It's a good show. So is thirty rock.

hugs and kisses - nice place.

Battlestar is very good, I agree.

No thanks to me? BAH! You got almost every episode from me you ungrateful bum.

My Dan and I will also be getting into GC on the 22nd late. How long is your drive?
